Everything Starts with Nutrition...
Most of the things you will see here relate to my efforts to do well by my kids. If I wasn't responsible for the proper care and upbringing of three beautiful people (and a husband) I would certainly be relaxing more and taking a lot more shortcuts. Keeping everyone healthy has turned into the single most time-consuming part of being a mother. Nutrition as a form of preventative health care is high on every mother's priority list. Due to the changing relationship between people and their natural environments, food production, delivery and storage has had to change. This has given rise to new types of food that didn't exist before and it is no longer controversial to declare that most of the "processed" foods are counter-productive to good health. The trick is in determining what is good and how to steer kids toward the good stuff and learn to ignore mass marketing appeals for the the unhealthy alternatives.
The topic of nutrition has been covered by many qualified professionals that I believe are truly on the right track. Instead of leading off with my thoughts on the matter, I thought I'd offer a list of books I have read on the subject. If you have a chance, pick one up and give it a good going over. If you don't have that much time, I have included links to the authors websites where you can get a pretty good idea of what their message is.
Crazy, Sexy Diet by Kris Carr
My favorite nutrition book (right now)! Extremely readable, funny and well researched. Kris Carr deftly pulls together many of the current doctrines of wellness and adds a good portion of her own lively personality. We researched and engagingly written, there is some new revelation to be made on every page.
